What do followers of No, in fact there's even a good book called "If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him!" The idea is that Buddha consciousness is latent within you, and you don't have to look to someone else to find it. So, in essence, they are saying "if you don't accept your own Buddha nature, you are damned".
