We used it mainly for transfer of files from DOS disks to the Apollos and back. It seemed to run every bit as fast as an AT, and could do graphics just fine. The keyboard map was somewhat of a pain, but you get used to it quickly. The emulator, DPCE, is awfully slow, and I wouldn't recommend it. It doess what it's supposed to, but you better have some spare time. Of course, I used to use it on a DN3000, so maybe on a 3500/4500 it might be a bit better.
