The new one, if memory serves me right, has 4 dip switches; the old one has 3. that 4th switch allows the user to turn of the auto answer mode. I have one of each and leave the 3 dip unplugged so that callers don't get screeched at. For my purposes (simple bbs & unix computer calling), it is adequately hayes compatable.
