I don't see why not. I've been using one off and on with my old slow Corona for a while now, when ever my unreliable Anadex WordScribe fails (again). Over on bozo the clone type: mode com[x]:4800,n,8,1,p [cr] then use the command mode lpt1:=com[x]: to reroute the printer to the comm port. THe [x] is which comm port to use. On the LA-50, sw1-6 will switch you from the xon/xoff used by the Rainbow over to the ready/busy used by the clone. Remember to turn the LA-50 off then on in order to make it reread the dip switch. Of course you'll need a cable to go from the comm port ot the LA-50, and the wiring of that will depend on whether the comm port is a 25 pin or a 9 pin plug. Hope this helps. --- * Origin: Chicago's BIT WIZ Opus HST (AlterNet 445/689) (Opus 1:115/689) ------------------------------ Date: 03-27-90 (07:33) To: KEN KAPLAN Subject: RE: LA50 PRINTER From: FRANK MALLORY > What is the difference between FX_LA50.ZIP and a file called > LA50.ZIP that contains a file (no DOC's) I presume is a > device driver named LA50.DRV. Here, at least, LA50.ZIP contains a setup program for the LA50 that was design to run on the Rainbow. Whether it will also run on the IBM PC, I know not; but I doubt it. I have no idea what LA50.DRV is. You can FReq FX_LA50.ZIP from this board, provided you make this BBS addressab from whatever software you use to do the FReq. --- * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Md. - 301-622-2247 (Opus 1:109/123) ------------------------------ Date: 03-25-90 (15:13) To: ALL Subject: OPUS/RAINBOW/DSZ From: CHRIS RYAN Are there any Rainbow users running OPUS, who are using ODSZxx.* to use DSZ as an external protocol? Is the external protocol going thru the comm fossil, or is it accessing the comm port directly? --- QM v1.00 * Origin: ; (1:102/139.0) ------------------------------ Date: 03-26-90 (11:41) To: ALL Subject: SUITABLE SOLUTIONS'S DEMI From: CHRIS RYAN That's right. Suitable is closing down as of 5/31/90. If you have any interest in anything they carry, you better get on the stick. There are items avail., and they are liquidating the RAINBOW items. The phone number is 408/727-9090 (voice) and 408/727-0823 (fax). A price list is avail. This is making us devotees of the RAINBOW more self sufficient. You better think about IRUG, too, while there is time to do something about it. DEC ain't going to help us nearly as much as these two have. --- QM v1.00 * Origin: ; (1:102/139.0) ------------------------------ Date: 03-27-90 (08:26) To: BOB FULLER Subject: LA-50 From: TOM KEMNITZ Bob, Your problem with the LA-50 sounds like the same one I had. Setport kept returning "Printer isn't on" whenever I tried to change pitch. I was also having a problem with the buffer overflowing which resulted in the LA-50 printing backwards question marks. I was able to stop the buffer from overflo by lowering the baud rate from 4800 to 300, but the Setport problem remained. With the help of Stuart Fuller from the DECPC Sig on Compuserve, I was able to track down the problem to a faulty DC-DC converter on the LA-50 circuit board. It is supposed to output +12VDC and -12VDC to the RS-232 port from a +5VDC input, but mine was putting out less than 1VDC on both the positive and the negative. After searching around for a couple of weeks for a direct replacement (mine was a Fujiken) I gave up and had a friend dig another brand out of the scrap bin where he worked. The pins did not line up with the holes in the circuit board so I just soldered wire leads on the pins and then soldered the leads to the circuit board. It has been working great for about a month now, so it looks like the problem is solved. If you are interested in trying to fix this yourself, leave me a message and I will give you more details. If not, Efficent Field Service in Mass. (800-257-4745) will fix it for $80.00 (I think) if you send just the circuit board. It costs more if you send the whole printer. You can also call ESS in Wisconson (414-255-4634). I used to use a patched Turbo C 2.0 (with the TC1.0 patch) under i]DOS 3.1A, but it doesn't display properly now. Oh well. BTW{, in case{ anybody is interested, Alpha Systems not only has rights to Turbo Pascal 3.0, but I believe all of the older Borland products that Borland doesn't sell/support. There are 1 or exceptions, but their intent was to sell & support all of them (ie: older ver. of SideKick). --- * Origin: Long_Island RB (Opus 1:102/138) ------------------------------ Date: 03-27-90 (13:21) To: ALL Subject: LQP02 TRACTOR FEED From: CHRIS RYAN Anybody have a tractor feed for an LQP02 that they wish to sell?
