Ignoring the shell requests for a moment, the DOS enhancement that most
recently caused me the greatest difficulty was the inability to get/set
(especially SET, when the media does not contain a DOS compatible boot
sector) removeable media configuration data, and cause the equivalent
of a media change to occur via software.

Next is a standard method to have an arbitrarily long argument string
passed as input to a program in a manner that does not require the
program to parse a response file, or at least doesn't break when a
program using one attempts to invoke another program.
