This is clearly totally the wrong group for this question, but I
have no idea where it really belongs. I apologize in advance.

I am wondering how a company arranges for a link into the Internet
system. For example, I can send e-mail to people at TANDEM, APPLE
etc by sending to USER@tandem.com etc. Can any company with some
internal network/mail system arrange to have access to some gateway,
and if so, how?

I apologize again for misposting this question - I do usually get
it right.
