Many thanks to those who offered suggestions. However, command-option- trashing didn't work; Apple's Disk First Aid gave me "An internal error has occurred - cannot continue" while verifying, and stopped, and then another folder became a folder from Hell when I tried to overwrite it. SUM DiskFirstAid gave the following error messages: Allocation map is invalid Directory is bad What exactly do these mean, can they be repaired (SUM II won't), or do I have to reformat my hard disk? What are the consequences if I don't?
