Here in the College of Engineering, we do have IBM PC compatibles for hardware development, but I'd like to further the idea that the Mac is a better lab computer. I'd like to build some data acquisition hardware (with accompanying software) for the Mac, but I'd have to rely on Apple to donate a computer and development tools in order to have my project be realized. Perhaps somebody at Apple could give me some more info. I really want to initiate Mac hardware/software development at my University.
