Yes, this is a known issue.  ;-)

As a matter of fact, I faxed Simon Mackay an explanation of it just
yesterday.  Now that I see this post, I'm sure the question must have
originally come from you.  Why not give Simon a call at the NCR office
in Melbourne?  He can tell you all about it, including what patch
release of xhpad would probably be best for you.
