One other point to consider, when stacking these beasts, is the
consumption of preamble.  This is included in Pat Thaler's
description of "looking like a piece of [AUI] cable" - real cable
doesn't eat preamble!

This is the reason, as I understand it, that Digital recommends
not cascading more than 2 deep.
