Has anyone implemented it?  The person who originally requested the
function would like to change the way it works incompatibly.  He has
relatively good reasons, but I need to know whether I can just change
the definition of "as_send_pkt()", or whether I need to add a new
function that works the way he wants.

It would be useful to get this resolved promptly.  E-mail answers to
me, please.
