Here's a quick overview what's available and how much it costs: The system is split into modules, you only have to buy the modules you want: 1) basic TEX system (4 disks including tex, some fonts, the format files plain, latex, plaing and latexg (german versions), previewer and 120 dpi 24 pin printer driver) 40.- DM (10 DM is about 5.5 US$) 2) 180 dpi 24 pin printer driver with fonts (3 disks) 30.- DM 3) 360 dpi 24 pin printer driver with fonts (5 disks) 50.- DM 4) INITEX (2 disks) 20.- DM 5) Source codes (2 disks) 20.- DM 6) LaTEX book, TEX book (4 disks) 40.- DM 7) Metafont (7 disks) 70.- DM 8) GnuTEX (adapted version of GnuPlot) (2 disks) 40.- DM 9) Tangle/Weave/P2C (3 disks) 50.- DM 10) Deskjet/Laserjet printer driver with fonts (11 disks) 120.- DM 11) Epson 9 pin printer driver with fonts (6 disks) 60.- DM 12) Demos and macros (2 disks) 20.- DM 13) BibTEX 20.- DM The system was compiled on a Sun using GNU CC, thus it's much faster than Aztec-compiled versions (or so the author says, don't flame me for this :-). It comes with installation scripts, documentation (not much) and demo .tex files. Of course it's public domain, you can copy it but you're not allowed to make it available via bbs or ftp or sell it as public domain. You're right, for public domain the prices are high enough, but since the system is really good (I didn't have any guru yet and it's FAST) I think it's all right. If you have any problems you can even call the author himself, he offers this service. What I like very much about it is the fact that it supports all European formats (e.g. for letters, DIN A4) and all those special characters like vd| without having to type something like \"o for v (yesyes, you could include that yourself with a macro, but for a beginner it's always better to have such things included). I also bought the LaTEX book by Leslie Lamport ----> never saw something equally amazing before. I love it!
