What should >we do if every program had it's own library... > Two points about Post 1.1 1) there are other significant improvements from post 1.0 to post 1.1 a) Post now supports all the PostScript language extensions as defined by Adobe. b) The font handling has fixed so that it supports more fonts, (some fonts could crash Post 1.0) c) other misc. bug fixes which could cause some serious problems. 2) There is a VERY GOOD reason that POST 1.1 now exist as a SHARED amiga library. It is now possible for multiple programs to use the same code simultaneously, what this means is that the amiga is now 9/10s of the way to having a true Display PostScript system. It is now possible for several programs to use postscript to render graphics without the memory overhead of having multiple postscript interpreters running at the same time, thats the idea of amiga shared libraries isn't it ? I personaly feel that a true DPS environment on the amiga will be an important asset for ami. The advantages for having things such as a graphics/transfer protocals/math/ plotting/PostScript interpreters... in shared libraries should be OBVIOUS, thats just one of the things that makes the Amiga such a great machine (IMHO :) >Fonts can be found on BBS's (as posted earlier). There are plenty of >PD fonts around. I will soon post my second version of the PSFONTS collection to xanth. This collection of fonts are all PD/Shareware fonts which have been converted for amiga use, and have been tested with Post. Most (if not all) include bitmaps fonts, and quite a few include .AFM files for people who need those (such as TeX users). There are numerous improvements to this collection since the previous version, to make them work better with Post, and also be more Amiga compatible. If there is any interest I will also post some example postscript files which generate some color pictures, etc. tim replies to maffett@netcom or maffett@uther.cs.orst.edu
