It is certainly contrary to all the common economic wisdom -- the "buy one, get one free" principle while simultaneously succeding in being both undemocratic AND contrary to Apple's interest to attract high-quality, _motivated_ attendees, rather than the I-can-afford-the-$500 crowd.
