The switch between hyphenation patterns requires TeX 2.992 or later
(3.0 has just been announced). However, before wasting your time 
duplicating others' efforts, you should probably think about joining
DANTE, the German speaking TeX Users Group. For more information 
about this group, send e-mail to DANTE@DHDURZ1.BITNET.
