Windows/386 w/ ATI VGA card Message-ID: <1456@mindlink.UUCP> Date: 10 Apr 90 11:24:19 GMT Organization: MIND LINK! - British Columbia, Canada Lines: 20 The ATI VGA Wonder card will definitely give 1024 x 768. I am using this now on a Seiko monitor, both with WINDOWS 386 and with the run time package that comes with WORD for WINDOWS. Read the instructions very carefully about how to install WINDOWS. A special driver has to be built which seems to combine information both from your WINDOWS release disk, and from the ATI disk. The procedure is complicated and takes a couple of peculiar floppy disk swaps before the driver is created. Try to install WINDOWS from scratch following the ATI procedures exactly. The NEC 3D should give 1024 x 768. As a quick test not involving the WINDOWS package, there is software with the card which will check out the ability of the monitor to display various resolutions. The drivers which are created for the high resolution WINDOWS 386 also work for the run-time WINDOWS package for WINWORD. WINWORD in 1024 x 768 is glorious - you get to see about 10 inches of page width, although the characters are smaller. I think that what is done is to draw the characters with the same number of pixels, but just increase the space in which they can be drawn. For further help, you may E-mail me.
