The Home Fleet sorties from Scapa Flow to intercept, but is impeded by a heavy storm. British destroyers succeed, however, in mining the Norwegian coast at three points, and this act is announced to the world. The Norwegian collier Navarra is torpedoed without warning by a U-boat off the Scottish coast; 12 seamen are lost. Italy and Yugoslavia are reportedly considering closing the Adriatic Sea to all foreign warships, to prevent Britain from attempting to enforce its blockade there. -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Bill Thacker military@cbnews.att.com Send submissions for "50 Years Ago" to military-request@att.att.com "Not a single sardine can pass the Strait of Otranto without our permission" - popular Italian saying
