David Navaras says he thinks that the 'original' Macs in many educational
labs were bought at original Mac prices.  While it is possible that is
true, Apple was also very aggressively pushing the Mac into schools
and many machines were heavily discounted by Apple or even outright
donated.  My son's High School has a bunch (30-40) Apple ][ machines
that were donated by Apple way back when.  They are networked to a large
hard drive.

It is too bad that Commodore is not in a position to give away machines.
But the discount is probably the best they can do - and it is a very
good offer.  

My opinion is that CBM needs to do some thinking on how to sell a machine
(500 or 2000 - their option) that is set up and ready to be networked.
Buy the 2001!  It comes complete with monitor, 2 drives, and network
card for hooking into a <insert name of network> network!  Beats the
competition in performance and the price allows you to outfit a complete
laboratory at a fraction of the cost of the high priced competition.
