last I heard the Apple II is still making over $1 billion/year for Apple - with
this in mind compare the effort they're putting into marketing the II to
marketing the Mac... 

Apple doesn't want the GS to compete with the Mac???  It's NOT good business
to screw 4 million customers!!!  (i.e. stop supporting the Apple II)  I think
Apple has realized this and will increase their support of the Apple II line in
the future. (see transcript of discussion with JLPossum on AO "We messed up")

They are =NOT= anywhere near as good a computer for hacking as an Apple II.  I
have used Mac IIcx's, Mac SE/30's, Mac 128k, Mac Plus, Mac SE, IBM PCs, Suns,
Apple IIGS, Apple II, Apple II+, Apple IIc, Apple IIe, Apple IIc+, Franklin
Ace's, Timex Sinclairs, IBM clones, VAX's etc...
    The most accesible computer out of these is the IIe.  Have you compared the
Macintosh monitor(machine language - not as in screen) to the Apple II monitor?
The Mac monitor is icredibly less intuitive - I've been able to figure out
almost everything about the IIe without any manuals.  I like to have a CHOICE;
I like the Macintosh (esp Mac IIcx & up) but I don't want to have to use one
to use an Apple II.  I can't afford a IIfx and don't want an SE - I can afford
to upgrade my IIGS.  I like the Apple II SPIRIT - the kind of people that use
Apple IIs - the whole feeling about an Apple II "the stick shift hasn't been
discontinued because of automatic transmissions" <- I want to keep the Apple
II stickshift around - I don't want to have to buy an automatic Mac.

YUCK. each init must not be worth much individually if you need/want THAT many!
Same goes for control panel!

grrrr...  I'm getting really sick of hearing this "you should be happy" BS!
I AM happy that GS/OS is beter than Mac OS in some ways; and I will be happy
when the rom4, GS/OS v6,Mac FST, and GS graphics not in slow memory are
available!!
