as far as i can tell the archimedes is still around. acorn computers
is owned by olivetti, the most successful computer company in europe,
who also make some stuff for at&t. according to the byte preview you
can get info on it from

according to the article, the archimedes has two (sort of) expansion
ports (they call them "podules" - ha, the british!!!). while the arm
has a 26 bit address bus. the archimedes runs a program called
65arthur (arthur is the name of the os) which emulates 8-bit 6502
instructions, thus running bbc micro programs. read the article it
covers the archimedes in greater depth than i can here!!! the article
is (once again ) in the october 1987 issue of byte p.125-130.
