I have Yamaha DM-1 speakers and I used to get all sorts of noise from the 
earphone jack, but since I tied them to a SuperSonic Stereo card, I get 
zero noise on stereo output.  I built up a little switch where the 
speakers can run either off the stereo card or the earphone jack.
