The main problem with the Turbo-816 is the limited processor speed. To keep Antic, Pokey, and the RAM happy, DataQue had to leave the clock at 1.79Mhz. Therefore, your regular software will see no speedup unless it uses a lot of OS calls. (They have been 16-bitized for a little extra speed.) I believe there is a SpreadSheet for the T-816, but that is about the limit of the software available. There should also be an SRAM/EPROM board available. As for bugs, well it seems to work ok. It was doing something funky with my MIO before, but that seems to be fixed. Now it seems to be doing something funky with my Doubled 1050, but I'm not really sure what is going on there. I am working on a little project that, if it is ever completed, should help software availability a lot. We'll see. Basically, the 65816 is a nice little chip with a lot of potential, but forcing it on the XL/XE architecture is not working well.
