Sure, you can put the name of a directory in the exports file.
However, this name is only effective if the named directory is the
mount point, on the exporting machine, of a file system.

It is not possible. It would be nice if it were possible.

I think you are doing something wrong.  I assume that you are getting
monitor_7.0 from me10.lbl.gov.  The binary in
/usr/spool/ftp/hp-ux/contrib/usr/bin works fine on my 370 running 7.0.
Others have grabbed this file and it seems to work for them.  Be sure the
executable is owned by root with the umask set to 4111.
