I want to do a project which can be though of as:

bunch of printed German material ->
	scan it -> OCR software -> text files -> 
		language translation utility (from local company) -> 
			manual cleaning up of translation

not being an IBM MS-DOS expert, I beg of the Usenet Mind any info
particularly about OCR software. Scanners are getting cheaper (no reason
I can't use a hand held) and I have a line on the translation software.

I notice that some OCR s/w is $50 and some is $400. Is this because
the $400 package is 8 times better?

I can only pay in brownie points. But I appreciate any info you
feel like sending. Please email as I can't always plow through the
1,000 messages in here...
