IBM considers 4.0 the proper version number. 4.01 was issued to correct GLARING mistakes. NOW, here's the good part. You can get from your favorite IBM representative or remarketer the following diskette set(there are TWO): CORRECTIVE SERVICE DISKETTE UR29015 This CSD will correct ALL known problems with IBM PC-DOS 4.0, including using BUFFERS, FASTOPEN, and/or IBMCAHCE in extended/expanded memory. It correct the memory handlers, etc. and provides a new internal command SYSLEVEL which show DOS version/release date and CSD level/release date. I too originally had problems with PC-DOS 4.0(labeled 4.01). Now, since installing the CSD UR29015, everything works as advertised and I even save real memory running certain system pgms in extended/expanded memory. Try it you'll like it !!
