Summary: FIXBEEP TSR affects floppy speed, any better one? Message-ID: <10205@batcomputer.tn.cornell.edu> Date: 4 May 90 14:32:13 GMT Reply-To: braner@tcgould.tn.cornell.edu (Moshe Braner) Distribution: usa Organization: Cornell Theory Center, Cornell University, Ithaca NY Lines: 20 Since the BEEP on the PC is so annoying, I got a PD TSR named FIXBEEP that changes the beep to a shorter one. (When you start it up it says that it is by "Nifty James".) This worked fine on a real IBM AT, and on one 386SX machine. I recently got a 386SX machine with the FTK motherboard, AMI BIOS (from Gateway). There, with FIXBEEP installed, all FLOPPY operations are delayed: the diskette spins for about 10 seconds before the normal I/O finally happens. Same for drive A: (1.2 meg) and drive B: (1.44 meg). The disk controller is the DTC 1:1 RLL HD/FD model. Any ideas why this happens? Any alternative beep-fixing programs? Thanks. - Moshe Braner Cornell Theory Center, 265 Olin Hall, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY 14853 USA (607) 255-9401 (INTERNET) (BITNET)
