after ftp'ing the first distribution tape successfully from one of the 
"official" midwestern distribution centers, and uncompressing & tar'ing 
it successfully, ( onto an at&t 6386E running SVR3.2.0 ), i reached out 
and ftp'd the 2nd distribution tape. 

however, during the extraction process on the second tape, the process
failed with the following message:

tar: contrib/clients/mlx/Csong24.bdf:  HELP - extract write error
 
thinking that there was a space problem, i removed LOTS of stuff from the
machine and tried it again.  the process bombed in the same place.

finally, i tried ftp'ing the whole set of tape files from another site, 
thinking perhaps that the archive or ftp transfer had produced corrupted
files - then tried the extraction process again.  it bombs again, in the
same place with the same error.  

i'm stumped, guys.  anybody got an ideas on this one?
