I had made a very unofficial patch to do just this, which I have given
to the Consortium. I don't know what, if anything, they'll do with it,
so don't bug them about it.

However, I did attempt to post it to comp.sources.x with negative
results (I botched the posting, apparently). I'll try again sometime in
the next few days, including writing a new README and manpage.
