Let's say that we are running an Amdahl 5990/UTS and wanted to put a LAN intensive application on it under X-windows, does X-windows exist for Amdahl's UTS currently? How busy would an ethernet LAN be with 50 users logged onto an X-windows host (client?). Let's just say they have inactive (idle) sessions, how much traffic would the idle X-windows client/server connection generate in a quiet state? Now suppose that each user became more active....xfering ascii data from a remote site (thru NFS), how much more traffic would be generated just from the X-windows activity? Does anyone know of ANY systems managing 50 X-window users at one time? How about 250 users at one time?
