This may delay the modem's interpretation of the PEP tones long enough to get a connect. This kludge has worked on any number of picky brands. USR users (as well as some others) learn quickly to disable VOICE recognition, as their modems fail to distinguish between the Telebit's electronic PEP tones and the human voice. As an aside, Setting S10 to 30 or so (3 seconds) on both ends can be an effective way of disabling call-waiting. --- "These are the days of lasers in the jungle..."
