 There are a number of people working with this idea already -- of
 putting a small headerless kernel on the target, and keeping the
 interpreter/compiler layer and dictionary/symbol table for the target on
 the host --- still allowing "transparent" interactive use of the target.
 Klaus Flesch in Germany, Martin Tracy in Los Angeles, and Chris Stephens
 of COMSOL in England have worked on this.  I believe Forth Inc. is
 selling some derivative of Chris Stephen's stuff as a product here in
 the US.
