There is a book out:
  Matsumoto, Yoshiro and Ohno, Yutaka, _Japanese_Perspectives_in_
  _Software_Engineering_, Addison-Wesley, 1989, ISBN 0-201-41629-8.

It covers theoritical, practical and managerial issues in software
engineering from a Japanese perspective.  I haven't had time yet to
get into it in detail, but chapters 7 and 8 deal with testing/quality
assurance issues, including some description of testing tools.
