Subject line says it all.  I have heard of several "line powered"
modems that doen't even need a battery.  Are these sensitive to phone
line quality or of questionable compatibility or ???...

In any case, I'd appreciate hearing any recommendations (or
anti-recommendations) regarding pocket modems.  Please Email, and I'll 
post a summary.
