Message-ID: <6638@alvin.mcnc.org> Date: 29 May 90 21:18:08 GMT Distribution: na Organization: MCNC; RTP, NC Lines: 29 My wife is interested in doing some composing on our '386 machine at home. In that the standard sound system for the IBM is VERY limited, I am interested in purchasing a sound card to enhance its capabilities. I know that there are several manufacturers of these boards, but I can't seem to locate any distributers, or anyone who can give me some in depth descriptions of the boards. This is what I know so far: Adlib Board Mostly for games No MIDI Capability # voices = ? Sound Blaster Some Midi Capability (Non-standard [what does that mean?]) # voices = ? emulates Adlib? Roland Card ????? Midi Compatable Can anyone tell me more about any of these cards? I am interested in price, suitibility for composing music, used by any existing programs, and MIDI compatability. Many thanks in advance!! Rusty Jewett e-mail jewett@mcnc.org voice (919) 967-7074 nights (919) 248-1427 days P.S. Oh, where can I buy these boards for a reasonable price? Can I make one myself? I would prefer to buy one through mail-order.
