Tim Hsu) Organization: Purdue University Lines: 24 I need to somehow purchase Microsoft Cobol version 1.7 (yes that is 1.7). I have version 2.2, but I've been asked (commanded) to rebuild a piece of software that was written in version 1.7. Normally this would be a simple recompile to the newer version, but I only have the source code to a single part of that program (the program is enourmous folks, so rebuilding it is out of the question. The part I have is about a megabyte of code and it is only about 1/3 of the total). So any changes that I make must be compatable with the previous stuff (pre-version 2.0 MS Cobol would compile to .obj files and you would then have to link these files with the proper libraries. Post- version 2.0 stuff would both compile and link producing a .int file meaning that post-ver 2.0 stuff produced interpreted code while pre-ver 2.0 stuff produced executable code. I figured it would be the other way around, but I guess the Fed govt perferred it that way). What is it? It's a very old piece of accounting software that is no longer supported. Anyone who knows how one could go about downgrading their software, please speak up. -- T.
