There has been quite a lot of discussion if and when NeXT or someone else will
produce software to allow use of the DSP port for a software modem.  Well,
that's a very good idea.  However, given the dramatic drops in prices that
modems enjoy (I've never paid more than $300 for any modem, from 300 baud
up through 2400 baud) as the technology is refined I thought it might be a
better use of the time if someone would come up with software to utilize the
DSP port for a

Radar Detector.

According to the latest issue of "DSP News," Escort's just come out with
a DSP-based one, for about $400.  Radar Detector prices just don't seem
to be coming down!  It should be easy for some undergrad to port the code,
no?

The problems I see are:
	1) It will be hard to get the Cube to fit up on top of a sun visor
	2) If it's windshield-mounted it'll probably break the mirror
	   attachment.


Now that we're finally seeing some DSP applications, when can we expect
NeXT to announce support for them?  Does anyone have any info on the
rumored "Cigarette Lighter Plug"?  Any truth to the assertion that the
new NeXT will have brackets so that it can be, stealthily, mounted behind
the radiator?
