My SS1+ came with 4.1, but I can't get Kyoto Common Lisp to build
correctly (apparently due to the fact that both KCL and 4.1 want to cache
extra info at the end of .o files).

If this is in fact the  problem, I'm sure KCL will be modified to work
again. In the meantime I am considering downgrading to 4.0.3. Is there any
reason why this shouldnt work? I already know the disk I installed under
4.1 will probably not be readable.
