The truth is, most people won't have the energy or desire to fight on the political front unless they are getting nurtured from somewhere. The only alternative is to become embittered and to fight just for the sake of fighting. I think Greg is embittered, and that he fights political battles for that reason, but you cannot win in politics that way. People won't listen to you unless you are responsive to them. I would think this is especially true of the disabled. Because so many of us ARE more dependent than most people, we need the affirmation. I see this echo as providing a vital function in this way.
