A friend of mine asks:

"A medium-sized brown bird has been flinging its body against the
windows of my San Francisco Bay Area home.  The bird flaps its wings
and appears to have a twig or other nesting material in its beak.  I
have recently moved to California from the east coast and am not
familiar with this bird -- it is robin sized and has a sweeping tail.
I have seen it at several different windows both upstairs and
downstairs and it becomes very agitated.  Can anyone tell me more?"
