You might try out Ultra Technologies (ultra.com). They make an (up to) 1Gb network product called UltraNet. They claim 32Mbps socket-to-socket throughput between VME Suns. (They get 500Mbps socket-to-socket between Crays!) (_Unix Review_, April 1990.) I haven't experienced their products personally, but these guys seem sharp.
