If this is the case, how is Mac Minix going to run in comparison to the other versions where it is an independent OS? Even though it will not be a complete replacement for the operating system, why not make it a possible complete replacement for the standard Macintosh user interface? I have seen a couple of command line interfaces and button-oriented launching utilities that replace the standard GUI. This would at least allow Mac Minix folks to not be reminded of the attitudes of the Apple people all the time while running the machine. Since it is going to be an application, why type of performance should we expect from it? If at all possible I'd like to get rid of my MS-DOS BBS that handles Usenet (I use WAFFLE, if someone wonders) for something that really handles Usenet; like rn, cnews, ELM, and all of those other mail/news utilities that MS-DOS will never be able to compete with. Will this be possible, and what type of speed can be expected on a non-SE II or non-SE/30? I'm looking forward to whatever is released, and hoping that it will be able to take over this eye-sore of an MS-DOS machine's chores. [best place to respond is grouch@legion.uucp]
