However, in 3+Open Lan Manager, XNS transport (XNSTP) can be loaded and unloaded dynamically (just like FTP Software's PC/TCP kernel). So one could still use 3+Open Mail even if DOS workstation is running NBP NetBios (3Com propietery) or RFC1002 NetBios. You would need to load XNS before running 3+Open Mail and unload it after that. I was told that 3Com is porting 3+Open Mail to run over NetBios session. Does anyone have any information on this? 3+Open Mail over NetBios COULD have many advantages: 1. protocol independent. 2. able to use Lan Manager's authentication rather than using 3+Names. (ei one common password rather than 2 passwords). 3. do not require a separate Mail Minder program for mail arrival notification.
