Real mode will run on any CPU type, however with limitations. It can sortof multitask between windows applications (not DOS applications). You are limited to 640K plus expanded memory. Standard mode runs only on 286/386 CPU's. It can take advantage of up to 16Mb of extended memory, and run windows 3.0 applications in extended memory. 386 enhanced mode is preferred because it utilizes the virtual memory mode of the 386 CPU's. It can multitask between DOS applications.
