HD Message-ID: <81148@tut.cis.ohio-state.edu> Date: 4 Jun 90 14:11:03 GMT Sender: news@tut.cis.ohio-state.edu Reply-To: Jim Gaynor Followup-To: comp.sys.mac.misc Organization: Ohio State University Computer and Information Science Lines: 33 The Problem: A Mac with an internal hard drive refuses to recgonize the hard drive upon boot-up, and shows no hard drive when booted with a floppy. SCSI Probe shows that the SCSI port is being used, but "no data is availible". Apple HD Setup SC cannot find a hard disk. After some random time - hours or days - the Mac -will- recognize the int. hard disk upon power-up, and act perfectly normal. The problem may or may not re-occur. Parameters: o This has occured -only- on Mac SE and SE/30 models. o Has occured with various versions of System Software (6.0, 6.0.3, 6.0.4, 6.0.5) o INITs installed are so varied as to make it virtually impossible that it is one INIT. INITs that have been "suspect", such as SCSIParker, Public Folder, and Broadcast have been removed, but the problem reappears. o In short, we have been unable to determine any one common denominator for this. We -suspect- a virus that might somehow be changing the HD Driver, but have no support. Also, Gatekeeper detects no activity, and the System files are usually re-installed after the HD reappears. Has anyone else has similar problems, or a possible solution? -=- +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Jim Gaynor - Graduating Macintosh Consultant - The Ohio State Univ.
