We have been using an Hewlett Packard ScanJet plus with the desk accessory DeskScan. It has 256 grayscale capability and has an optional sheet feeder. We like it very much. For OCR, we have been using AccuText and OmniPage with some luck. I don't really think OCR technology has come of age. We continue to get spelling errors to the extent that it is easier to retype the text for all but the longest documents. AccuText can read graphics and text directly from the ScanJet. OmniPage cannot and must read a file created by DeskScan. Experience with color scanning: none.
