Here are the details: dvips 4.2 - does not understand all psfig specials (notably pstext); also gives errors for some of the .tfm files (ones that came with dvi2ps 3.1). The specific error message is "invalid design size". dvi2ps 3.1 - does not generate ps files that are as compact as dvips; dvips also seems to be a little better at automatically including necessary .pro files (e.g., when using builtin PostScript fonts). psfig 1.2 is the version we have. I am looking into dvips version 5.02 to see if it resolves any of this, but would appreciate guidance from those up on the latest dvi to ps tools. Thanks! -- J. Eliot B.
