I've found a solution I made a modest little change the gettydefs of the remote system (the one with the Avatex modem) to add HUPCL. After that change, the Telebit can now sync and talk to the Avatex if you give it a modem break. Oddly enough, no other modem requires a break to get 2400 baud, since the hunt sequence starts at 2400. The solution is even more strange than the problem! I can't see how the addition of HUPCL would make a difference, but what the heck... Emmet P.
