I am posting this for someone who wants to know about 
universities in the States which are doing research into 
communication barriers (autism, cerebral palsy, aphasia 
etc). This is with a view to applying to graduate school. 
Can anyone suggest suitable universities (preferably on 
the west side of the Mississippi) to which to apply?
