X! instead of shrewdly negotiating a similar hostage deal with Karnas,

X! devastating forty-year civil war.  Karnas wants Jameson to return
X! to Mordan...so Karnas can publicly execute him.

X! After Jameson leads an aborted rescue mission for the hostages, he
X! collapses in pain.  Dr. Crusher reports that the de-aging drug has put
X! an unbearable strain upon his internal organs, and that his death is
X! imminent.  Seeing the now teenaged Jameson in extraordinary pain, Karnas
X! decides that his revenge has been satisfied.  When Jameson dies, Picard
X! and Karnas negotiate the peaceful release of the hostages.

X! Karnas is holding the hostages himself, and wants Jameson for some as yet
X! unspecified revenge.

X! After Jameson orders the ship to accelerate for an early arrival at Mordan, 
X! Picard talks to him privately.
X! (By this time, Jameson is physically in his mid- to late-twenties.)
X! He hears the truth of what happened 45 years ago:
X! rather than negotiating to free hostages Karnas took then,
X! Jameson gave Karnas the weapons he wanted, but also gave them to his enemies,
X! inadvertently causing forty years of civil war.

X! Picard successfully executes the Jaradan greeting, allowing the Enterprise

X! This quickly proves to be more a danger than a blessing, as 
X! we find that Lore can lie.

X! he was disassembled because the colonists were jealous that he was ``perfect.''
X! Lore explains to the crew how the colony was destroyed: a crystalline entity
X! which feeds on life appeared and essentially ate the colony up.

X! He drugs Data and exchanges places with him,
X! then contacts the crystal and begins to make arrangements to
X! give it the Enterprise, just as he once gave it the colony.

X! think ``Data'' is anything but Data.
X! As the entity arrives, Picard sends ``Data'' to check on ``Lore,'' harshly
X! reprimanding Wes for his recommendation not to leave the meeting unguarded.
X! Lore uses deception to get Wesley and Riker to leave, then damages Data.
X! Wes suggests one last time that Lore is pretending to be Data and is 
X! sent off the bridge, with Beverly coming along to keep an eye on him.

X! home planet.  They also learn that the aliens hijacked the Enterprise in

X! set the auto-destruct, then beam intraship to the bridge, where they find the
X! Bynars unconscious, dying, and asking for help.

X! to contact the terraformers were ignored.  As a result, they murdered the

X! Valera III.  But the Microbrain's power is too strong.  Just when its
X! energy projections threaten to destroy the ship, the crew discovers that

X! They beam the sample aboard and keep in in a medical lab, where they find that,

X! The terraformers claim not to know anything about this lifeform,

X! The lifeform reproduces, then manages to shrug off the quarantine field,
X! and \f2then\f1 tries to communicate with the ship, proving itself to
X! be not only life, but intelligent life.

X! Picard discovers that Benson and Mandl occasionally saw strange patterns in the
X! sand down on Velara, which were ignored, but were clearly in hindsight attempts
X! to communicate.
X! The lifeform, which contains all the necessary elements to be
X! a living computer, divides again and again, until it becomes formidable.
X! Angry over nearly being killed by the terraformers,
X! it declares war on the Enterprise.

X! They try to beam it back, with no success, and then the lifeform gains control
X! over the Enterprise computer.
X! Realizing that the creature is photosensitive, 
X! Riker kills the lights in the lab, rendering it helpless.

X! battle section of the ship.  Torn between his new life and his Klingon

X! Impressed by Worf's skills, the Klingon Captain offers Worf a position

X! The two appeal to Worf's heritage and tell him what really happened:
X! they are dissidents, opposed to the Federation-Klingon peace,
X! and the ship they destroyed was a Klingon cruiser sent to bring them back.
X! They ask Worf for a tour, just as the bridge detects another ship coming

X! The other ship contains a Klingon captain, K'nera, demanding the return of
X! Korris and the others as criminals.
X! Yar takes them into custody, despite their appeal to Worf to join them.
X! Locked in their cell, however, they jury-rig a disruptor and break out,

X! Korris goes to Main Engineering and aims a phaser at
X! close range at the dilithium crystal chamber.
X! One shot at that distance, and he would destroy the Enterprise easily.

X! After being buffeted by several more shots, Geordi calls Logan up to the bridge.

X! Down on the surface, Picard finds a console tracking the away team,

X! destroyed the Minosians.
