As the entity arrives, Picard sends ``Data'' to check on ``Lore,'' harshly X! reprimanding Wes for his recommendation not to leave the meeting unguarded. X! Lore uses deception to get Wesley and Riker to leave, then damages Data. X! Wes suggests one last time that Lore is pretending to be Data and is X! sent off the bridge, with Beverly coming along to keep an eye on him. X! .sp .5v X! Unbeknownst to Data, the Bynars have used a computer-generated woman to lure X! Riker and Picard into the holodecks, where they don't hear the alert to X! abandon ship. Upon exiting the holodecks, the starfleet[Starfleet] officers X! realize that the ship is empty except for the Bynars, X! who have taken control of the Enterprise. X! X! Determined not to leave the ship in hostile hands, Picard and Riker program X! the Enterprise to self-destruct in five minutes. But when they beam onto the X! bridge, they find the Bynars dying. After turning off the self-destruct X! mechanism, Picard and Riker discover that the ship is orbiting the Bynar's X! home planet. They also learn that the aliens hijacked the Enterprise in X! order to use its computer, after an explosion knocked out the Bynar's X! main computer, which is their life-support system. X! X! Riker eventually goes to examine the Bynar-enhanced holodeck, programming it for X! a jazz bar in 1958 New Orleans. X! Soon, the crew learns from the Microbrain that some of its members were X! killed during drilling on the planet's surface, and that its attempts X! to contact the terraformers were ignored. As a result, they murdered the X! engineer in the hydraulic room and have declared war on the humans. X! X! To save the Enterprise, Picard attempts to beam the life form back to X! Valera III. But the Microbrain's power is too strong. Just when its X! energy projections threaten to destroy the ship, the crew discovers that X! the Microbrain feeds off light. The Enterprise visits Velara III, X! a terraforming station with which communications have been erratic. X! After doing everything short of ordering them not to X! beam down, the Director, Kurt Mandl, allows them down and warmly welcomes them. X! The ship is hailed by an automated salesman, who invites them to beam down. X! Riker, Yar and Data do so. X! .sp .5v X! Riker, on the surface, sees an image of the Drake's captain, his old friend X! Paul Rice, but is quickly informed by the Enterprise that there are no life X! signs apart from himself in the area. X! He tricks ``Rice'' into revealing it is only an image. X! It then turns itself into a small hovering device, and encases Riker in a X! force-field, and it is then destroyed by Yar. X! .sp .5v X! Picard and Beverly beam down to help, and Picard leaves Geordi in command. X! Unfortunately, as Data begins work on removing the force-field, a second device X! appears and fires on the team. X!
