After the accident, assorted officials were quoted in the media as saying yes, it could be repaired. (And as I recall, the subject was discussed extensively in this newsgroup.) However, since the Iowa is being mothballed later this year, it's doubtful that any repairs will ever take place. --Steve Bellovin
